KISII AND MIGORI

 Elder Harris with the LDS Charities had asked us to go to 

Migori and take pictures of a facility there that dispenses

medications for HIV+ and Aids victims.

We also have a member of the Church in Migori we have

wanted to visit for quite a while so we coordinated the visits

and went on our way.

KISII

On the way we drove through Kisii and here are some

pictures of the town. It was market day so there was

a lot of activity in the town!!

The streets were narrow and windy...

Kisii is in the mountains and would almost remind someone

of Park City. Those with hand carts struggle to make the grades

with their heavy loads.

Roads were made for walkers as much as for vehicles.

Sellers arrange their wares for sale all over the ground.

Large bundles of produce are stacked everywhere for buyers.

SCHOOL IN MIGORI

In Migori we met with Benard who had a school 

in his compound for many of the young local children. 

Many of whom cannot afford to go to school. 

No uniforms are required and they are taught well.

The classroom was small and the children crowded.

There were about 75 children in the classroom.

The teacher by Elder Moon was the head teacher

and the other was the other teacher.

There were two charts on the wall -

 one with parts of the body and the other with the alphabet- 

and both were very ragged and showed their wear!!

TEKELEZA DICE CLINIC  

The go ahead drop in center

Tom was kind enough to take us to the clinic we were looking for.

The medications dispensed to HIV Positive and Aids 

clients at no charge to them are funded by LDS Charities.

 

This is where clients and visitors are checked in.

This is a Drop In Center (DICE) for anyone who wants to come

here to visit, read the paper or watch TV.

This is the room people can visit or 

wait to be counseled and receive medications.

There are two or three offices and here is where people are

counseled (one on one) concerning and habits.

This was a very clean clinic and very caring
attendants!!
What a great day we had!!

MARCELLUS

We visited with Marcellus and Wilikistar and had such a great visit. 

It was an open meeting of love and repentance. 

The future is bright and we hope it will bring the

results we have all desired.

IMPALA PARK WITH JOYCE'S SCHOOL

Joyce has a small school for very young children near

where she stays. One day she called and invited us to join her

class at Impala Park so off we went...

The teacher and the students who could afford the cost of

a snack with Sister Joyce (in the red hat).

We took pictures of the children with the zebras.

Unfortunately we couldn't get the zebras to fully cooperate!!

New to the park was an eight month old giraffe.

STREET VENDORS

July 2013

NYABONDO IN JULY

July 11, 2013

In our monthly meeting to Nyabondo there were many, many 

children there because the teachers were on strike.

On the spur of the moment we asked Sister Bathsheba to tell

a story from the scriptures so the children were gathered

together and she told them about Joseph Smith,

She spoke in the Mother Tongue so they would understand better.

We gave instruction on the Third Article of Faith and it was 

well received. Everyone seemed to understand.

A beautiful two week old boy was also in the meeting!!

The mother was proud of the cutie.

We were told his name would be Elder Moon

we'll see......

Zaddock is the baby's grandfather and wanted a picture with 

Elder Moon so he could one day show it to the grandson.

When I took the picture I said they looked like salt and pepper....

After the meeting we had another meeting with the 

Community Council that went for quite a while.

When we came out of the council meeting 

these good sisters were seated here visiting and 

enjoying the day. It ewould have been nice to be here with them!!

We had lunch (in the home in the background)

 which was prepared by these good sisters.

Food is so delicious here!!.
