BUSIA IN JANUARY

January 25, 2014

 We went again for Leadership Training and 

Seminary and Institute Training in Busia.

We had a good group come to the trainings.

 Afte the training we spoke to Sister Moureen and her son James.

Before we left our home our grandson Brody gave us his MIMI

which was in two parts. (A green plush security blanket)

We were to give them to little boys

in Kenya who would need them.

Last June we gave one to Ainea Moon in Kisumu 

and today we gave the

second part to James in Busia who was born in December.

They were very appreciative for the small blanket.

On Sunday Moureen brought it to Church with James.

Aftet the meetings there is also a general Church cleaning and 

yard word to be done.

Today they were raking the dried leaves and weeds from the yard.

They also use a broom the sweep the leaves.

A good two days in Busia with training Saturday and 

Sunday services on Sunday!

MIGORI WITH JULIUS

January 23, 2013

We heard that Julius and his family were in need of blankets

and had some other concerns so we went to his village near

Migori to deliver the blankets (as a help to Charities)
and see to the other needs.

We met him in God-Jope in a shop where Sis Florence 

a member of the Church worked. 

We had not known her and we so glad to meet

her and her child. Her husband is also a member but was not there

at the time we were.

We drove on to Juluis' home.

He read it and then looked for the Church that used this book.

He later joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints.

The road was very rough and rocky in some places.

It is very narrow in some places.

While traveling on the tarmac road we passed this truck

and workers loading sugar cane from the fields.

There is a ramp ladder on the side for them to climb to 

hand off the arm loads to someone on the truck to stack.

We saw three cows in the back of a pick-up.

As we followed the truck the cow on the right was moving

around and the hing led got out of the truck

and then was taken back in. momentarily.

It would have been a rough ride for the front passengers.

There was a man on the top of this truck trying to better secure the

load on the top. This was a place where we were traveling

about 80 kmp!

These tuk tuks are for about three passengers but this one was

overloaded and someone needed to stand on the edge and

hand on tight!!

Good day of service and we always see interesting sites.

VIHIGA WITH THE ELDERS

January 21, 2014It

The Elders were going to go to Vihiga to visit their new 

converts and we offered a ride for them.

It was also a good time to take them to visit Sister Ericah -

she is always asking that the Elders come to visit.

We also gave a lesson here and had some chocolate and bread.

We then picked up Brother Godfrey in Vihiga and then visited at

the home of Brother Tony.

We also gave a good lesson here on the Book of Mormon

and invited Tony to read it all the way through before Christmas.

We also visited Sister Evelyn. We gave her a lesson on the 

Book of Mormon and the blessings and knowledge that 

comes as we read it. An added blessing will come as she reads

with her husband and children on a daily basis.

She agreed to read the Book of Mormon before Christmas.

We also visited Sister   who has a son named Eugene 

who is serving a mission in South Africa. 

After a lesson on the blessings of reading the Book of Mormon 

she accepted the invite to read the Book of Mormon before Christmas.

We then went to Godfrey's  home where we had a good visit.

Through the window in the living room was the stall for the cow.

In the corner was stacked the wood used for cooking.

Godfrey agreed to read it before Christmas.

What a great day we had visiting and sharing lessons about the

"NO TRANSFER" TRANSFER DINNER

January 20, 2014

It was transfer time but no one from our zone was being 

transferred but since we have the dinner usually before we 

know who is being transferred we had the dinner and 

enjoyed an hour together!

FOOD INITIATIVE

January 17 - 18, 2014

BUSIA

Elder and Sister Shakespeare came to Busia for a

Food Initiative Meeting

and invited us to attend to add some eyes and ears to the meeting.

Sister Moureen was there and of course her
sleeping baby James.

This really works and is a good way to plant a garden in a
very small space that produces a lot of food for a family.

There are six families in Busia who have been part of the 

Food Initiative Program and had harvested their first crops. 

It has been very successful so today was a time to evaluate what they have

done and what to do now.

Brother Matwale (he and his wife served as full time senior missionaries

in Kenya in the Charities and Food Initiative Program) 

giving instructions and direction to the group after they 

had reported their doing in the Program.

When James awakened there was a grandfather to take 

him from his mother,

After the meeting we traveled to Kisumu for another 

Food Initiative Meeting there.

We stopped at the Equator for pictures.

Here are Elder and Sister Moon half a world apart yet still so close.

After the meeting the members gathered together for refreshment
and to receive their seeds and other supplies.

This has been a good day!

KISII AND MIGORI

January 15 -16, 2014

We usually travel to Kisii and Migori on separate days

but we decided that if we could find a place to stay

overnight we would not travel back home 

then back down. We found a good place

so we stayed the night and saved us a lot of travel.

questions and joined the discussion with good comments.

We then went into Kisii and met with Brother

who lives in Nairobi and was visiting his parents, 

Sister    and Brother David.

We  had a very good meeting here with these faithful members.

It was market day in Kisii so there were many MANY MANY

people in Kisii town.

Hundreds of people were congregated to sell and buy!

The streets were jammed with vehicles and people!!

We moved very slowly!!

Many people came into town from the villages 

crowded into huge trucks.

People and goods crowded together over the ground.

The  next morning we stopped at a small "hotel" on the 

way out of the city.

Brother Josephat and his wife Sister Janet

They really want the Church to be organized here so they 

can worship with other members.

On the road to Migori we came to a semi truck on its side.

MIGORI

In Migori we met with Tom whose son is a member of the 

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Brother Julius, 

and Brother Benard.

We had a delicious meal prepared by Brother Benard's children.

We also had a good worship service with these men and

Benard's children.

Benard operates a small school for the young children in his

neighborhood. Here they are outdoors with the head teacher.

Then the children headed to their homes for their lunch and 

will return to class in about an hour.

We also saw an interesting sign in Migori. 

We wanted to stop and met with the pastor but he was not 

available but we will visit with him the next time we go.

 TRAVELING TO KISUMU

We met interesting travelers as we crossed the bridge near Ahero.

A good sized herd of cows crossing the bridge with many cars

trucks and lorries!!

and relaxing for the ride to wherever?

What great days we had.
