BUSIA ELDERS

November 2, 2013

We went to Busia for a visit for training and took the 

Elders to dinner at a Royal Restaurant. 

The food was delicious and we didn't have to wait 

very long for the food to be served

These are some very good missionaries!

After meetings on Sunday we took the Elders to Kisumu with us.

Here is a load of bananas!! They are very heavy for a boda boda!!

Why would we need a truck if you can carry a sheet of tile

or board on a boda boda??

KAKAMEGA VISIT and ROCK

November 1, 2013

We have wanted for  longtime to go to Kakamega

and finally President Okila arranged for us to meet 

some of the members there.

He traveled with us and we found our way to the home

in a longer time than we planned.

We met in Sister Caroline's home and had a lovely brunch.

President Okila, Sister Caroline, Brother Tendwa, Sister Vivian,

Elder Moon, a Pastor of another Church, Sister Christine,s sister.

Lined us by the fence around her compound.

We presented the First Lesson on the Restoration including 

The Book of Mormon. There were many questions and answers.

Everyone said they learned something and were grateful we came.

There was a good Spirit of Testimony baring also.

On our way home we stopped at the 

CRYING ROCK.

No one seems to know where the water comes from but

each August during the rainy season there is water that

pours from the crack between t he two rocks.

Since we were there in November we saw no water coming

but we did see the water stains down the front of the rock.

Nearby was a sow and her young piglets. 

She was very protective of them and she moved around to face

me when I took the picture..

We parked near the road and walked down and then 

up the hillside. This is Elder Moon going down away from the rock.

We had also wanted to see this rock and we were glad it 

was near the roadside and we had a "guide".

NYABONDO

We had a great visit in Nyabondo.

We taught the Plan of Salvation 

and the members said they learned from the  message.

RIVER RIDE IN KISUMU

October 30, 2013

On a pretty afternoon after study, planning, and preparing

we took a ride west of town and followed a road going north.

We saw some beautiful but different area than we had seen.

There were many homes and life movements.

We followed a river that crossed the Nairobi Highway and 

found this foot bridge that connected the banks of the river.

With erosion the river was in a deep chasm.

Some very pretty areas with the brown river water.

At an open place near the river we saw the uses of the water.

These young boys were taking their jugs of water from the river

to their homes. We watched fascinated as they dragged the upper

yellow jug up the hill from the river. 

The boy in the red shorts dragged it between his legs. 

I was surprised how fast he could move it.

We traveled quite a distance - until the road was so rough and 

deep drops that we dared not go further. 

We enjoyed the new country.

As we came into town by a different road we passed the
junction in Kondele and saw these two entrepreneurs going
through the garbage dropped near the junction.

OIL CHANGE AGAIN

October 29, 2013

 

Time for another oil change so we called Michael and 

we went to his "shop" for the service.

However, his "shop" was full so 

HAKUNA MATATA"

just pull down the street and stop in another empty place

and do the change there!!

 They even wash up the motor area so there are no oil drops

or dust under the bonnet!

The rope used to loosen what needs to be loosened

and the filter and oil.

Good job guys!!

NO TRANSFER DINNER

October 28, 2013

 This week is transfers so we had scheduled a 

dinner for Monday evening.

HOWEVER, there has been a refusal to give

work visas to incoming American missonaries so there

were no transfers except where adjustments needed to 

be made to cover those who went home.

BUSIA RELIEF SOCIETY BROADCAST

October 26, 2013

The Relief Sisters in Busia had never seen the RS General Broadcast

so I figured it was time they had a meeting that was 

just for the women to enjoy together.

I had told them it would be nice.

When I arrived they were in the process of preparing the room

foe the meeting. The men had brought the Sacrament table

from the other building and the old console from

the Clerk's office to set the TV on. 

Sister Robai had brought her furniture cloths to cover the tables

and chairs. It was LOVELY.

Peter was there also there to add color and smiles.!!

We started with only two sisters but by the time 

President Monson spoke we had six sisters there.

butter/jam sandwiches - while Sister Robai and Sister Mary

went to the market for soda.

I had also brought some chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin cookies.

Of course the cloths were removed for the refreshment!

The messages were great and  the sisters' visiting was greatly

needed. The discussed the talks and their lives.

ERICA, GODFREY, MBALI

October 25, 2013

We had missed our visit with Sister Ericah so we made 

arrangements to visit her. We took President Okila with us.

We had a great visit as we talked about 1 Nephi 26 

and the qualities of Christ. He loves us and cares for us.

That was to be our day 

but as we passed the home of Brother Godfrey

President wanted to just stop for a few minutes to greet him.

His father was out in the yard and welcomed us in and soon 

Geoffrey came running in.

As we were visiting his grandmother came in also.

She didn't speak English but talked with President Okila.

Godfrey was baptized about 3 months ago and is teaching 

the Young Men in Priesthood and doing a great job.

 President also wanted us to stop in Mbali to see his office that

he works out of as a "TENDER". He was proud of the accommodations.

SAFARI NJEMA

ELDER AND SISTER HUNTER VISIT

October 23-24, 2013

 Elder and Harris who are serving in Kitale as S&I Missionaries

visited us in Kisumu and of course Dunga Beach 

was a good place to see.

They are a great couple and we have learned much from out

association and phone calls over the year we have been here.

 Today there was a LOT of activity with the women and 

their fish business.

 Some still cook over the open wood fire

rather than the big jikos made by the men.

Animals are such a great part of life in Kenya!!

The fishing boats were in and the fish all taken care.

We had a great day with them.

They spent the night then we showed them a pretty way to go home

and avoid some rough roads and terrible construction roads.

We visited with Brother Hesbon on our way home and enjoyed our ride also!!

BIRTHDAY AND GOODBYE

Nairobi

The day finally arrived that
RETT, SUSANNE, BRYNNA
were leaving Kenya.

Brynna loaded with her backpack and pulling a

suitcase heads down the hall and out the door of

our temporary home in Nairobi.

She was a HUGE help in taking the luggage down.

Elder Olsen and Elder Moon took them to the airport

while Sister Moon had a meeting with some other women.

What a loaded girl.

We will miss them and hope they travel safely and
that they will always remember the wonderful time in
KENYA.
