For our Zone Activity we went to Impala Sanctuary.
We have been there before and even posted pictures on here
of our visits but here is another posting .

BUSIA IN JULY

July 27, 28, 2013

We had a great training meeting in Busia.

We trained the leaders and then the teachers -

especially the Seminary and Institute teachers

but everyone in the leadership meeting stays

for the teacher training and it works well as

they are also teachers and we teach good teaching

methods and skills.

Following the meetings there is always Church cleaning.

Maureen is very faithful and helps in the cleaning.

She is pregnant and with her niece on her back and a 

broom in her hands she goes to work.

This week we divided into the Priesthood leaders and the 

Sisters. Elder Moon gave instruction on ordinances and 

Sister Moon gave instruction on Relief Society principles and

how to conduct and prepare for the Sunday meetings in the Auxiliaries.

After the training we went to a meeting with the Elders.

The man in the yellow shirt is 84 and really wants to join the Church.

This was a very good meeting for us. 

We love going with the missionaries!!

After the meetings on Sunday we took the Elders from Busia
to Kisumu for a Zone activity on Monday and then to
Zone Conference on Tuesday.
The Elders in Kisumu were busy when we arrived so we
prepared some dinner for the Busia Elders.
They were really hungry and such good company.

What a great two days we had!!

FUNERAL IN NYABONDO

July 25, 2013

On Tuesday Bathsheba called from Nyabondo and said

she had her baby son yesterday and had died this evening.

We were devastated for her and Dennis.

With President Okila we went to visit the graveside and them

on Thursday. 

It was a sad day but one in which we could share the

Plan of Salvation

and the teachings of the Gospel concerning little children.

When we arrived there were several other branch members and 

friends at their home.

Those who were there stood around the grave and prayed together.

KISII AND MIGORI

July 22, 2013

 Elder Harris with the LDS Charities had asked us to go to 

Migori and take pictures of a facility there that dispenses

medications for HIV+ and Aids victims.

We also have a member of the Church in Migori we have

wanted to visit for quite a while so we coordinated the visits

and went on our way.

KISII

On the way we drove through Kisii and here are some

pictures of the town. It was market day so there was

a lot of activity in the town!!

The streets were narrow and windy...

Kisii is in the mountains and would almost remind someone

of Park City. Those with hand carts struggle to make the grades

with their heavy loads.

Roads were made for walkers as much as for vehicles.

Sellers arrange their wares for sale all over the ground.

Large bundles of produce are stacked everywhere for buyers.

SCHOOL IN MIGORI

In Migori we met with Benard who had a school 

in his compound for many of the young local children. 

Many of whom cannot afford to go to school. 

No uniforms are required and they are taught well.

The classroom was small and the children crowded.

There were about 75 children in the classroom.

The teacher by Elder Moon was the head teacher

and the other was the other teacher.

There were two charts on the wall -

 one with parts of the body and the other with the alphabet- 

and both were very ragged and showed their wear!!

Board of Directors of a college in Migori)

TEKELEZA DICE CLINIC  

The go ahead drop in center

Tom was kind enough to take us to the clinic we were looking for.

The medications dispensed to HIV Positive and Aids 

clients at no charge to them are funded by LDS Charities.

 

This is where clients and visitors are checked in.

This is a Drop In Center (DICE) for anyone who wants to come

here to visit, read the paper or watch TV.

This is the room people can visit or 

wait to be counseled and receive medications.

There are two or three offices and here is where people are

counseled (one on one) concerning and habits.

This was a very clean clinic and very caring
attendants!!
What a great day we had!!
