More wonderful experiences in Kenya!!

In the yard of a petrol station this tanker truck was being repaired.

Now THIS is a LOAD and then some!!

From the side we saw that the load was this high clear to the front!!

Near our home we saw a truck that had driven in to a trench that

had been dug during road construction!!

NYABONDO IN AUGUST

Most of the members who attended the quarterly 

Sacrament Meeting in Nyabondo in August.

President Okila and Mary (RS President) went with us.

We all talked about the Fourth Article of Faith.

SOME THINGS WE SEE

 August 2013

We see so many unusual things as we travel around town

and through this beautiful country.

I mean unusual because they are things we usually don't 

see at our own home.

Some pictures are not at a very good angle to see

the best view but sometimes we can't get any better.

This is a dresser being carried on the back of a bodaboda!

Plastic "lawn" are a big item here and can be found in

even the most remote villages!!

Most matatus have signs on them and this is 

very meaningful to us!!

The mission needs to invest in something like this

or the words for the back of the truck!!

on boda bodas or piki pikis.

The contents may be eggs, bread, soda etc...

ELDORET EXCHANGE

Sister Musana in Kisumu was being transferred

to Eldoret and Sister    in Eldoret was being transferred to Kisumu.

We were asked to make the exchange so we called 

Elder and Sister Anderson (with Sister   ) to meet us about 

half way to make the exchange.

We met just the south side of Kapsabet at the side of the road.

These cuties were standing together watching us so I

took out the camera. When the youngest one saw he stepped

behind the girl then eased out to see what was happening.

The two then walked down the little slope to come closer.

Then the little guy decided he might just as well slide down, too.

The sisters together...

HARVESTING MAIZE

Nicholas is a wonderful man in the branch!

He has a shamba up-country with maize that he donated

to some branch members to be able to begin a business

selling roasted maize on the side of the street.

He needed help harvesting it so the members who were

to benefit from the maize went with us and picked!!

It was planted a little late so some of the ears were small....

Elder Moon was very busy also.

After the picking the bags were to loaded into the truck.

More loading - thanks to the bags left in our truck 

after our trip to Kilaguni

we had bags to pack the maize.

The bags were heavy and not too sturdy so it took help to carry them.

It didn't take us long as there were helpers at the compound.

This was a good day for us picking maize.
The branch members to benefit from this will use the money they
earn from this maize to buy more and then continue their business.
This is a good business here as it is fast food to eat on the go!~!

FOOD INITIATIVE IN BUSIA

August 2, 2013

Elder and Sister Harris (LDS Charities) were going to Busia with
Elder and Sister Matwale (The first Kenya senior couple missionaries)
(Food Initiative). This was the last meeting with the members of the
Branch as they were to receive the equipment and review their
instructions to help them be more productive in their shambas.
We were invited to go along so we would know what was going
on there and to be able to help later if needed.
We were ready and willing to participate.

This was the FIRST meeting of any Food Initiative group

that everyone involved was present!!

The missionaries were VERY happy and impressed!!

Elder Harris gave a demonstration how dong work together is 

easier and accomplish more when they all work together.

No one person could lift Bro Odero as he sat on the table but

together they could raise him up....

...even VERY high. The members should meet together often and 

share together the things they learn about the new methods they 

are using so they can assist each other.

Tumiani and Anna walked several kilometers to be to the meeting

and are now ready to return to their home.

An added part to the day in Kisumu Japheth received a new
arm powered tricycle from LDS Charities.
His other one had completely worn
out. He travel in heavy traffic and over some rough trails to
come several kilometers to Church each Sunday.
He needed a new one!!
