LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

October 19, 2013
Nakuru
On Saturday we went to
LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
and really enjoyed the day together.
Rett, Brynna and Susanne
with Lake Nakuru in the back.
The water was very  high and even covered some of the roads.
While the others were doing their thing Brynna and I were standing
here looking in the direction to the right and we saw a huge
hippo rise out of the water, look around and go back under
The only hippo sighting of the day!! AND no picture.
The trees were full of huge birds.
Gift shop and restaurant.
While we were parked here a big baboon ran across the parking lot
jumped on the platform (can you see him?),
ran to the tables and the people scattered then
he ran to our truck where both doors were open
(Brynna was on the back seat and Sister Moon in the front)
and climbed into the back seat next to Brynna and
just as quickly turned and run away!

DAY 7 BRAIDING HAIR

October 18, 2013
Kisumu
Brynna wanted her hair plaited so the day came for it to be done.
Hellen came from the market to perform the miracle.

 Hellen, Brynna and Nancy
They started near the front sides and moved to the back...
 Finishing the top part.
Hellen brought her daughter with her also and she enjoyed it...
... but also found it quite tiring!!
Nancy continued the plaiting while Hellen ran to the market
to get more extension hair.
FOUR AND A HALF HOURS!!
with two people working!!
Two weeks later at home
it took over three hours to remove them.
SHE LOVED THEM
although it hurt to have them put in and
they were heavy to carry on her head!!

DAY (B) Rett, Susanne, Brynna

PENDEZA WEAVING

An interesting to visit is Pendeza Weaving where you can buy
many articles of clothing, table cloths, matts, rugs, etc that
are all woven on these old style looms.
The owner showed us how he uses the
SPINNING WHEEL
to make silk, cotton, ans wool threads to use in the weaving.
He showed how to thread the threadontol spindle for the
machines so use.
A weaver at work on the big loom.
His granddaughter had a ball
and played with Brynna as we were taught.
In a small room we saw three treadle sewingmachines where the
clothing items were sewn and other items hemmed when needed.

MASAI MARKET

After the weaveers we went to the local
MASAI MARKET
where we bought several souveniers.
Hellen always helps us get a good price for what we are intrested in buying.

This was another great day!~!
