MOUNT ELGON

We have finally visited Elder and Sister Anderson and 

then went to 

MOUNT ELGON

in the Northwest area of Kenya on 

the Ugandan border.

Here we are at the entrance gate.

There were many baboons in the trees and along the road.

This looks like three sentinels!!

 

 KITUM CAVE

There was water dripping over the entrance of the cave

and a lovely rainbow was easily seen.

This cave was used for a home of a clan and a place they

could keep their animals safe from others.

Today there are many bats in the cave especially in the back area.

For many years elephants have come here to scrape the walls and

eat from them for the salt that is in the rock. They still come here

when they are this are in their circular migration.

made by the tusks of the elephants.

We left Kitum Cave and walked about one and a half

kilometers another cave.

We passed many trees with trailing vines from them.

We all needed some help crossing a stream of water near the cave.

This cave wan not used for a home or protection of the animals

because of the huge open front.

Guide Phillip left us at the entrance and he went far inside the cave 

and caught this

We then walked back tot he truck and had a snack of 

Oreo Cookies!!

The whole part of 

MOUNT ELGON 

is left to the natural growth. There is no pruning here 

or artificial planting. Just what nature does.

RED "SOMETHING"

I think this is the first time we had seen this antelope.

By a huge tree.

Birds eat seeds then deposit them in droppings in the branches

of the tree and there the seeds take root and grow.

They grow from the top then down and then root into the ground.

These are roots growing down and will grow into 

the ground then will continue to grow another

trunk to the tree and later the original tree

will die out.

You can see here where the seeds have rooted into the tree branch.

MASAI GIRAFFE

This giraffe stood about 20 feet from the roadside and just

watched us for a long time. When we tired of taking pictures

we left him just as we found him!!

The trees were gorgeous here!!

Outside the Park we saw a small dairy and it was milking time.

The milk "store" at the side of the road next to the dairy.

We saw many people with empty jugs walking along the

road towards the dairy probably to get their milk for the night.

Dinner with Elder and Sister Anderson in Kitale.

The Elders from Kitale had come for their DDM meeting and
to do their grocery shopping and came the
couples' flat for ice cream before going to bed.

It was so good to be with he missionaries and feel of their
spirits and testimonies.
We had a wonderful day as we visited and saw so much
of the beautiful creations of our Heavenly Father.
We learned so much about the animals here and the trees.
