SERVICE AT THE ORPHANAGE

One day a week we do service at the 

NEW LIFE HOME TRUST

which is an orphanage.

They take newborns and also children who 

are disabled. They also provide counseling.

Some of the children are brought here by the parents

who cannot care for the child.

The sisters help at lunch time to feed the children.

We usually care for the babies.

When we arrive the children are having outside time

as they play on the fenced porch.

Here we have Sister Musana, Sister Kusina, Sister Moon

We like to play with them babies and see their

happy faces.

Some will snuggle right into our waiting arms.
All of the children are given a name
when they arrive if they don't have one.
The names are usually from the Bible
and are taken in order from a list of names
that are kept for that purpose.

This is the view from the porch where we are with the children.

While we are with the children the Elders are

cleaning up the yard and other play areas.

Today these are sweeping the leaves.

George (who is a member of the Church works here

maintaining and repairing) helps the Elders and gives them

jobs to do while they are here.

Leaves and fallen blossoms are picked up and put
in the wheelbarrow to be disposed of.

Today Elder Ntcele and Elder Mahlaba are
cleaning the bowery.

They are good cleaners!!

After outside time we take the babies inside and the

feeding begins.

After his bowl of solids he gets a good drink of juice.

They children who are on solids are fed ugali mixed with a variety of

vegetables all blended and mashed together.

Other helpers also feed the children.

Today Sister Musana went in with the little older children.

They get to sit at tables to eat.

Some use a spoon and others prefer their fingers!!

Same as at home!!

She then came in to bottle feed a baby.

There is one room for the newborns.

We have seen babies as young as two weeks here.

Only the one worker cares for them.

This woman was sorting and folding clothes for the children.

She was so kind and so appreciative of us coming

to help here. She requested that we be blessed 

for the wonderful service we give.

We look at it as a blessing in our lives to just be able to come here.

Laundry is done probably early every day.

It is hung or laid outside to dry.

There are about 10 long lines also on which to hang the 

clothes, bedding and other supplies.

All the laundry is done by hand!!

They tubs in which to wash are put on a table so the

women don't have to lean over the floor to do the washing.

They also have a wringer that is used but is powered

by hand and not electricity.

We walk to the orphanage and we pass some

beautiful shrubbery along the way...

and huge trees and this is a very different kind of palm

we have not seen before.

Bicycles are used for more than pleasure ...

transportation, business and carrying!!

I love this bush in our compound...

and these bushes have been flowering all
of the time we have been here!!
