ZEBRA, GIRAFFE, ELEPHANT

June 12-14

Some of our animal sightings on our drive outs.

Elder and Sister Harris went with the 

S&I group to Kilaguni and they were great in 

showing us around to see the animals.

ZEBRA

The zebras we saw were the 

Common Zebra or Burchell's Zebra.

They have broader stripes than the Grevy's Zebra

and they onto the belly also.

Each striping pattern on a zebra is unique to them just

as finger prints are to humans.

GIRAFFE

The Masai Giraffe.

The male usually get a darker pattern the older they get.

Just checking us out.

Stopping for a bite.

They are capable of running up to 60 mph.

The giraffe are graceful and move both legs on the 

same side of the body together.

A long necked wonder!!

I love to see them walking or running!!

ELEPHANT

The first of the African elephants we saw were

playing in a pond.

A giraffe enjoyed the water for a time also.

Drinking, walking, rolling around.

Some are already to be on their way.

Enjoying the water!!

Another day we saw another group having a drink 

in a shallow watering hole.

We were aware that they kept watch for the little

ones by keeping them on the inside of the group.

Isn't it nice that they lined up so 

well for the photo shoot?

This mama indicates it is time to go.

I'm coming......

Our granddaughter told us that she learned at 

Hogle Zoo that elephants in the wild

grow larger than those living in captivity.

We saw that these seemed to us to be larger than 

the ones we remember seeing in zoos we have visited.

Female elephants usually live with their young and other
females. Males are usually solitary.
