Masaii Mara
We met Kyalo and Isaac early in the morning and loaded into
the SAFARI VAN and began the long journey from
Nairobi to Masaii Mara in Southwest Kenya.
Susanne and Brynna claimed the front seats.....
Rett right behind Brynna (and these were subject to change!!)..
Sister and Elder Moon brought up the rear.
All settled for a long summer journey!!
As we left town we stopped at the edge of the escarpment
and looked over the edge into the GREAT RIFT VALLEY.
This is one of decorated shops where you can purchase African art.
The day was fairly clear and we could get a good view of the
GREAT RIFT VALLEY.
Part of the scenery as we arrived at the
MASAII MARA GAME PAR.
There is even a Masaii village in the distance.
The entrance gate to the MASAII GAME PARK.
IMPALA
the first animals we saw.
Stop! Stop! There is a ZEBRA.
How did we know we would see hundreds before the day was over?!
there were a lot of BABOONS in the area.
CAPE BUFFALO
At the entrance gate we put the top of the van up
so we were able to stand up to get a better view
of all the animals and the beautiful scenery.
Here are Susanne, Rett and Brynna taking a look
They even had a smile for the camera.
When there were no no animals Susanne and Brynna
showed their smileds.
ELAND
These are the largest African antelope very much like cattle in appearance
DEFASSA WATERBUCK
This is a large antelope that has a long, shaggy coat.
COMMON ZEBRA
CAPE BUFFALO
These are very strong animals with short legs and much of a cattle appearance
LION
WOW!. A male lion Lane among the bushes
A closer view of his relaxing.
COMMON ZEBRA
There were many herds of these beautiful animals
AFRICAN ELEPHANT
WILDEBEEST
We just missed the great crossing by a couple weeks.
We saw thousands of these ready for the trek back into Tanzania
and the Serengeti.
VULTURES
waiting for something to eat.
WARTHOG
VULTURES
These vultures found the abandoned carcass of a wildebeest.
It was very interesting watching them eat off the carcass.
Some would stand by and just wait and
others would try to get their turn into the food.
OSTRICH
TOPI
We saw many of these and I think they're a beautiful animal
GIRAFFE
looking for low-level food.
MASAII GIRAFFE
This GIRAFFE seems to be saying, "Well, what are you looking at.?"
The lineup of WILDEBEEST on their trek back to Tanzania
CHEETAH
Lying near the side of the road in some bushes.
CHEETAH AND BRYNNA
Brynna had really wanted to see a cheetah and here she is with one.
Several animals on the hillside
Skyline view of a beautiful giraffe
SPOTTED HYENA
As we crossed the bridge of thr Mara River into the Mara Triangle
we saw hundreds of wildebeest carcasses
left from the crossing a few weeks ago.
This is a rough thing for these wildebeest. It is dangerous.
There are many crocodiles, and very crowded
where they can't even maneuver themselves
There were hundreds of vultures and other birds getting their fill also.
GUESS WHERE WE WERE!
Sister Moon is in TANZANIA and the Serengeti National Park
and Elder Moon is in Kenya Masai Mara Game Reserve
Brynna is on the LINE!
LIONESS
Susanne Brenna and Rett

They were well taken with the little Mazungu girl with blonde hair.
AGAMA LIZARD
WILDEBEEST
can you believe?
CHEETAH
Kyalo said that in 12 years of being a guide
he had never seen a CHEETAH IN A TREE!!
he had never seen a CHEETAH IN A TREE!!
He seemed to really be looking around the area for something special
Maybe I'll look this way...
Now isn't that a beautiful animal in the tree?
After while he was down and off through the grass
CHEETAH
Later we saw another cheetah.
Later we saw another cheetah.
CAPE BUFFALO
FACE-TO-FACE WITH US!!
FACE-TO-FACE WITH US!!
These two buffalo in a face-off!.
It didn't last long but there were sure some feelings there.
Kyalo again said he had never seen buffalo in a face-off like this before.
