KIBOKO BAY THE FIRST TIME

November 28, 2012
This afternoon we drove out to
Kiboko (Hippo) Bay and Dunga Bay,
and Hippo Point.
It is fairly close to our home and
easy  to travel to.
These two bays are close to each and today was just
to see what was in the area. We will go back later and
walk around and look for the hippos that come out
of Lake Victoria in the early morning and early evening hours.
We are often stopped or slowed by cows on the roads.

The road near Dunga Bay and
homes we saw along the way.

While there the rains came and we were in a downpour!!

Homes and areas we saw near Kiboko Bay.
We crossed a small river and saw this sight.
We later learned that these are bags of charcoal.
They are imported here from Uganda and are used
as a heat source for cooking.
Some people here in Kisumu also
make charcoal and sell it.
On the Saturday following our adventure to Kiboko Bay
a young man at the church for Institute said he had seen
us at Kiboko Bay and asked us about our day. He had
seen us while it was raining very hard so didn't stop us.
He wants us to come out again and meet him and he
will show us the best place to see the hippos.
We will do that.
He said he is the only member of the Church in the whole area!!
