DAY SCHOOL

March    2013
Brother Fred set us up with appointments for visiting
so we met him at his home and started
with Sister Joyce who has a school
she really wanted  us to visit.
This is a school for very young children.
This is the outside.
At the top they plan to print the name of the school.
There is a long row of homes to the left of the school.

Inside the building we find the children at their tables.
The cost for this school is 500 shillings per month.
That is a little over $5.00.
Some of these children are too poor to pay for the
schooling so Sister Joyce lets them come for free,

We watch them and they watch us.
Sometime those who cannot pay will come
only every other month.
 Singing a learning song.
Nice charts on the walls. They are colored on
bag material.

These fish have a letter of the alphabet on each.

The teacher had a bottle full of bottle caps
which she handed out to the children as she told each
which number to make with the caps.

Busy making their assigned number.
The teacher teaches for half the day then the
children go home for lunch and come back to 2pm.
Sister Joyce then teaches in the afternoon.

The teacher would come to each child and correct
them if they were wrong.
Then they sang a song for each child because they had
done it correctly.
When the class sang about the child that child would
stand and sway to the music.

Interesting shoes on one of the girls.
Some of the children were called to the board to
sound out the letters that made up the word duck.
The another child came to the board to
point to the letter then point to the picture that
began with the letter from duck.

Cute shirt and the other side matched this one!!
Outside the school were these children.
When we first arrived this boy was feeding the baby
from a bottle but moved to pose for a picture.
I didn't want him to move so I did not take his picture.
When we came out of the school he was there and I
took the picture.
Doing the laundry!~
This building was to the right of the school.
It is a home.

Across the "street" from the school was this building.
This is called a "hotel" where meals are served.
We may call them a cafe'.
The children go to their homes for lunch and if they have
money they may eat at the hotel and not go to their home.
