Our first zone conference in Kenya was held in
Eldoret on February 8, 2013.
We drove to Eldoret ( 2 1/2 - 3 hours ) on
Thursday and spent the night with
Elder and Sister Babcock so we
would be at the conference on time.
We crossed the Equator as we traveled the
Kakamega Highway.
We have traveled this way several times as we
would go to visit members but had never stopped for a photo
sooooo here we are at the Equator marker.
We took Sister Arach (from Uganda)
and Sister Kusina (from Kenya) with us
and also took their picture.
We traveled through Sabatia so we stopped to visit
Sister Ericah for a gospel discussion and refreshment.

After an inspirational message and discussion
Sister Ericah served us hot chocolate and
boiled sweet potatoes.
One of the sisters does not
"take milk" and Sister Ericah said "How will you get
your protein?" So she brought out each of us a boiled egg.
I was impressed that she was aware of needs of each of us.
This is the house being built next to Sister Ericah's
that we have been watching for two other visits.
Looks like it is coming along pretty good.
MAIZE DRYING AND PACKING
As we arrived in Eldoret we went directly to the church
and passed the area where people were
packaging and loading dried maize into large trucks for transport.
The maize had been laid out on huge tarps to dry for the day and
then packed in large bags.
These women were taking the rolled up tarps away for the night.

the tarps are moved.
This woman is "gleaning" the maize from the ground.
She had her bucket and in her tight hand is a small
weed broom/brush to sweep the kernels for pick up.
After picking up some she looks around for more OR
to see who is watching?
ROAD REPAIR
On the road to the church there was a spot of repair.
All of the work was being done by manual labor -
no large equipment,
Wheelbarrows and picks were the tools of the hour.
Traffic still passing by the workers in the middle of the road.
Taken through the window so not very good.
The man in the green vest on the right was swinging
the pick as they dug the hole for repair.
OTHER BUSINESSES
At the side of the road were many car wash businesses
and when they wash a car they are VERY thorough.
A little further along the road was an outdoor nursery.
There are many of these all over the country.
ZONE CONFERENCE
The meetings, food, announcements were wonderful.
They were so needed to re-invigorate us to the work we should be doing.
These fine Elders are serving in Busia Brabch where we also serve.

We spent two nights with Elder and Sister Babcock
and so enjoyed them and their home.
They went home two weeks later.
