On Tuesday March 12 we had permission to go to
the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi.
Everything was safe and there were no problems arising
from the outcome for the presidential election of Kenya.
In November we were in Nairobi for the
Senior Couple's Conference Sister Moon went to the
Centre with other couples while Elder Moon did
business at the Mission Offices and went to the Dentist.
Now was his turn to see the giraffe and feed them.
Here is a fairly young giraffe and had only been at the
Centre for about two weeks.
He was anxious for the pellets we were handing out to the,.
Looks like a head held high proud giraffe.
The giraffe here are in danger of extinction .
Many of the giraffe here are orphans and are cared for here
until they are ready to be put into the wild of the
Tsavo Game Park.

Other blogs tell a lot about the giraffe so you may want to
look for them for info about giraffe.
Giraffe are only found naturally in Africa.
The ones here are the Rothschild's Giraffe.
Giraffe can run about 31 - 37 mph!!
Some of the giraffe here are for the purpose of breeding
to increase the number of Rothschild Giraffe.
This picture was taken at quite a long distance and of you
look very carefully you can see an adult female giraffe near the
center of the picture and to the left is a lighter spot.
That is a 2 day old female giraffe.
This is the baby enlarged from the previous picture.
This is a large pen where the giraffe are put for 3 or 4 days
before transferring them to the Tsavo Game Park.
They are kept here so they are comfortable in a small
confined spot so they will be able to ride in the back
of a large truck in transport.
They had transported some just the day before we came.
Than tongue can be as long as 18 inches!!
They eat a lot of natural food and what visitors give them
will not affect their appetites to make them dependent of man
to feed them. The pellets given them are leaf products mixed with
molasses so they are like cookies for the giraffe.
A wart hog was also in the area. This one was eating.

They will do that where ever they are when they eat.
