DINNER WITH PRESIDENT OKILA

May 22, 2013
After our visit with Tom we were invited to visit
in President Okila's home.
He called his wife and told her we were coming and
to prepare for us!!
Their home is very comfortable and has a good feeling.
In their new kitchen,
(which was featured in a previous blog)
that is not yet completed,
is a place to put their maize on to clean it.
While we were seeing the work that had been done
on the kutchen since the last time we had been here
Sister Okila came in to get fire wood for the fire
to cook our dinner.
She had to step onto the ladder to get what she needed.
The outside of the kitchen.
Of course we had to see the shamba
and check on the crops!!
President Okila on the maize.
Sister Okila in the previous boma or barn
cooking our dinner.
They have no cow now to stay here,
Notice - no cupboards, shelves or stove.
Her stool is a water bucket.
Stirring the frying chicken.
This was slaughtered right after President had called
her to tell her to prepare for us.
For a hot pad she used a piece of paper.
The tomatoes are sliced for the soup.
Chicken under the lid and the water heating
for the rice.
It eained very hard while we were there and
there were many leaks in the boma.
This was a larger one and she move the
bucket with banana leaves in it to catch
thge rain, She used the "running water"
to clean her hands or spoon.
The dinner was delicious then came the
hot chocolate and bread
and blue band (brand name of the margarine substitute).
As we enjoye the chocolate Sister Olila and
Barry enjoyed their dinner.
