It was time for the monthly visit to Sister Ericah and
we took the sisters with us.
Sister Eises, Sister Namagaya, Sister Ericah
It is tea harvesting time and she was wanted to show us the
basket of tea leaves her hired help would take to the tea truck
to take to the nearby factory. This is a pretty big basket.
When the tea leaves are picked only the tip plus two are picked.
Her co-wife (sister-in-law) came to welcome us.
Elder Moon tried to lift the basket and he said it
was heavy. The picker hoisted the basket to
his head for the trek and ....
off he went.
Notice the burlap attached to the bottom of the basket....
because the bottom of the basket is worn completely away!!

A very typical toilet and bathroom
on the left is the bath room where one would take their pan of
water to clean themselves.

Sister Ericah (as usual) wanted to show us her shamba and some
of the plants. I don't know what this one is other than a
vegetable. The leaves are eaten for greens and the little tubes
are the seed pods. She said they make a tasty dish.
These are watermelon plants covered with a netting to protect them
from animals. She has never tried them before but wanted to
have some. They are plenty close for melon plants but I am
also anxious to see how they fare!!
Sukuma aka kale.
Here sometimes it is called sukuma wiki - eating sukuma will take
you to the end of the week.
Sugar cane.
Often people sell and buy this on the streets and
they much on it as they walk along.
Young banana "trees" in the front and potatoes in the back
and older banana "trees" beyond the potatoes.
She has a room in the back that is full of stalks where she keeps
some of her chickens.
She has a very good set-up but she works hard to maintain it.
