On January 27 Elder and Sister Kellems
came to Kisumu to do a Career Workshop
on the 28th and 29th.
On Tuesday after the workshop we went to
Homa Bay to see the fishing community.
I enjoy going there to feel the bond of community
and today was no exception.
The Lake is so pretty this afternoon!
This boat is one that came from Uganda bearing charcoal.
This port is used for the importation of charcoal and people
come here to get it to sell at the markets.
It takes quite a lot on maneuvering to get the bags of charcoal
situated on the back of the piki piki to transport it to
the buyer in order to sell. 
This is a real balancing act!!
And to get out it was not on level ground!!
There are a lot of bags waiting here to be distributed!
It takes a lot of people and then some to
keep up on the visiting.
This afternoon there were more fish to be weighed and
accounted for. Pretty nice looking fish.
In the corner of the bowery is the clerk to pay for the fish.
Lying on this tarp and being arranged by the woman
are small fish. These are caught at night using a light
as "bait" and a net to catch them.
They are attracted to the light and come to the net
to be swooshed up. They are laid out here to be dried
then sold or cooked - usually in a thin gruel type sauce
with a few tomatoes.
They are eaten whole with the innards and the outards.

These men were really working over these nets. I couldn't
see that they were repairing them because it looked as
they were in really bad shape.

The fires are going to heat the pans of oil ready for the fish fry.
There were a lot of cows here today.
And they are not bothered or pushed away.

We saw these two children near the road
as we driving out of the bay area.
I had to have a picture and so did the others.

Along the road as we were coming into Homa town
Elder Kellems had seen a basket shop he wanted to stop by.
So on the way out we stopped to see what wares they had.
There were two men playing what appeared to
be checkers but they called it something else.
The board is resting on their laps and steady enough
not to be disturbed.
They made woven baskets and furniture here.
The baskets were made with plastic or papyrus
or reeds. This is a chair being woven and will have a cloth
cushion for comfort.
The furniture frames were made with wood
or some with metal.
Back in town we found a new restaurant from the area book
left by the Foxes. The Garden Restaurant.
Good food with reasonable prices.
