We went to Kisumu Museum one of the
National Museums of Kenya.
Across the street from the entrance to the museum
is the local Plant Nursery.
There are may of them throughout the country.
The nursery and below
is the caretaker gardener with more plants.
The water also arrives on a hand cart in big black jugs.
These girls are on their way home from school.
Showing two methods of carrying school supplies!!
Elder Moon at the entrance sign.
This building contained a history of the area
and the beginning settlers to this area.
These included the Luo Tribe as fishermen,
the Bantu Tribe as agricultural people
and the tribe who were hunters -
who later turned to agricultural when the animals
became too scarce.
A mud hut with reed roof.
Inside of the reed roof,
At the museum is a very good
example of a Luo family compound.
There is the main home for the first wife,
then the second wife has her own home and the
third wife has hers also.
The sons also have homes and they are all
placed in a particular order showing their order in the family.
This shows the inside of one of the mud homes
and some of the utensils to be used.
Each wife has her own granary where their
maize is stored for use.
There is also a man hut for the men to gather and do
men things. This is their hut with a picture of the
men gathered.
The animal pen hut.
A view of the compound.
A nice mural and instructions show the travel one takes
when they are ready to build their own home.
Elder Moon with an escaped tortoise
The large tortoise here is said to be over 300 years old.
Two large crocodiles in separate pens
were lounging in the afternoon sun.
This looked like a cactus tree if there is such a thing.
We arrived at the snake windowed cages just after they
had been given their lunch.
We watched several eating their lunch but this one was
entertaining his lunch a w watched. The rat was
trying to play with the snake, reaching our with a paw and
the snake would dodge away, then the snake would reach
out to the rat and the rat would flinch back.
Finally the snake in one quick stroke attacked with hie
venomous tongue striking the rat. The rat pulled back and
slowly sulked away watching the snake as he backed away.
With in a few seconds the rat was flinching a little, then more and more.
Finally he fell done and shivered then flinched a few times.
The snake watched then slowly moved around the pen
to get a better view of the rat and his demise.
When the death was complete the snake moved quickly to
take the rat by his head and suck him in.
It took several minutes for the rat to be taken into the snake.
At the beginning the snake was backing up as it pulled the snake
with him and bringing him inside his mouth.
The rat being eaten by the snake.
After several minutes all that is left to be seen is the tail
of the rat hanging out of the snakes mouth,
I have pondered on this event several times and
know how like Satan the snake is!!
We cannot play with Satan or evil things even a
little because we never know when he will strike as
we are vulnerable to his wickedness.
