DAY WITH LDS CHARITIES

May 3, 2013
On Friday we went with Elder and Sister Harris
who are with the LDS Charities
with an auditor to audit some projects that have been
turned over to the owners to care for.
We started near the town of

These are toilet facilities at a school.
You may need to click on the picture to enlarge to
read the message on the wall.
LDS Charities pays for facilities and another company
will do the work.
We also had the head of
Reach the Children, Inc with
us as they are the ones who did the work.

This is a very nice facility.
At another place there is a large tank for water storage
when captured from the rain.
There is also a tap so the water can be used.
Another toilet facility and water for washing in another school.
Play ground with a soccer goal at a school.
The playground at a school we visited.
Another toilet and water facility.
The water tanks are also equipped with
a purifying system so the rainwater is cleaned
for the use of the students.
This particular school would have been closed for lack
of good toilet and water facilities if the Charities had
not become involved.
The LDS Charities also taps water from springs
making it easier for the people in the area to get
cleaned water from a tap
rather than trying to scoop it from the
spring as it ran over the ground.
This is the trail down to a tapped spring.
Plants around the spring.
The men checking out the tap and facilities there.
Some of the homes that use the tapped water.
As Sister Harris and I waited for the men to go
down to the spring these children gathered to watch us!!
The boy on the left with the tire was really good at
rolling the tire with a stick.
This is a popular entertainment or toy for children in Kenya.
He rolled the tire form here done the rough path
and back again without letting it stop or drop.
Even the grownups enjoyed watching us!!
Or I guess they enjoyed it they stayed and watched.
Shamba near the area.
With recent heavy rains
the road we traveled was a little muddy!!
This was a road getting a new surface.
We all walked to this tapped spring. There is huge
tank under the area where the water is trapped and
then cleaned for it to come out the tap
Elder Moon getting a drink.
This tapped spring provided the water for
about 30 homes.
We did walk down a muddy slope to get to
the spring.
Elder and Sister Harris
Children on the path to the spring.
These girls were going to get water and would be going
 to school next week.
At the top of the hill from the spring there was a young
man using him jemba to weed the shamba.
Sister Harris enjoyed helping him.
These girls walked by and agreed to have their picture taken.
Notice the bundle on the head of one of them and
the other is carrying their dinner for the evening meal.
This mama lives next to a bore hole well that services
about homes. Each home that takes water makes a
payment to the caretakers and the money
is used to do up keep repairs on the facility.
This is the well.
There is also a bucket there on a rope
to get water out of here.
There is also a power line from the well used to
pump the water to a pump house and
pipes to distribute the water the other home compounds.
A nearby tap attached to the well.
This young girl was using a jemba to chop in the shamba.
We had a good day as we saw facilities we had heard
about for many years.
LDS Charities links with many other
charities to help people worldwide!!
