PONGE UPCOUNTRY

We had heard several members mention about Bro Ponge

who was the first person baptized in the branch

following its organization four years ago.

We were with Sister Joyce one day in 

the area of her mother's home and she said

Bro Ponge lived nearby and we told her we would

like to visit him one day and we could also visit her

mother for a more formal visit.

This is Brother Ponge in his home near Maseno.
He has not been well and had just been released from
the hos[ital the night before our visit.
He was very kind and gracious as he told us of his
conversion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
He has a large family but none are members of the Church.

We are with him in his home.

Sister Joyce went with us to meet with him.

Sister Joyce grew up in this same area so she was

anxious for us to meet with Brother Ponga and

later we also met with her mother.

The living room on his home was large and comfortable

to accommodate his large family visits.

When his extended family gathers they read the Bible

together. We gave a message on the Book of Mormon

and encouraged him to read it to his family sometimes

when they gather or tell some of the stories from it.

Thereby sharing his beliefs and gospel principles with

them that they may desire to learn more of the Gospel.

We took our message with him from the 

Introduction page of the Book of Mormon 

and the importance of reading from the Book everyday.

The kitchen to the home is outside -

as is very customary - 

and here we see the dinner cooking on the 

open fire and the dish drying rack.

As we walked away from the home along the path

through their shamba to the place we parked the truck

these two small children came along the path.

I am always amazed at the early age of the children 

caring for their younger siblings or a relative child.

Very cute children!!!!

At this point we were at the crest of a hill and what
a pretty place and view of the countryside!!
We had a great visit and were invited back.
And we will go back.
